Winsor cross country headed to Newton for our annual "all-girls" meet with Newton Country Day School (NCDS) and Dana Hall. The course was muddy and rain was falling throughout but we were pumped to compete! NCDS was the only other undefeated EIL girls team and finished just 18 points behind Winsor at EILs last year. NCDS returned their entire front seven while Winsor had lost three. We expected a fantastic race and we got it.
Hannah McGrath ’13 and Sarah Goodman ’14 took off with the NCDS #1 and hung with her for 2.5 miles before she pulled away in the final field loop. Rookies Talia Ruxin ’16 and Katie Cronin ’17 also went out strong and battled the #2 and #3 NCDS runners and the Dana Hall #1. Naomi Gordon ’14 shut down the Winsor scoring in ninth place, ahead of the NCDS fourth and fifth scorers. An impressive pack of Michaela Barsamian ’14, Eliza McNay ’16, Zoe Flavin ’13, Regina Noonan ’13 and Pavlina Karafillis ’13 finished 12-16, ahead of the #2 Dana Hall runner and the NCDS #6 and #7. Charlotte Pollard ’16 and Sirena Khanna ’16 worked as a duo to push through NCDS runners and were closely followed by Anna Blaustein ’15. Caroline O'Boy ’16, Charlotte Borden ’15, Ceara Downey ’15 and Kate Brea ’13 all ran aggressively and finished with great kicks in the final stretch.
The two wins were a complete team effort. We also appreciate the many parents and siblings who came out to cheer in wonderful running but lousy spectating weather. Thank you to Schuyler Cornell ’13, Katie Weed ’13 and Michaela Morrow ’13 for your fantastic cheering! We close out our EIL season on Wednesday, October 17 versus Concord and Landmark at Gordon College.
