This year's March concert with Roxbury Latin was, in a word, "uplifting," reflects director Lisa Taillacq.
Held March 5, 2017, in Rousmaniere Hall, the inspiring evening featured the talents of Winsor's Chorale, Small Chorus and Senior Small along with Roxbury Latin's Glee Club and Latonics. The annual concert again showcased the powerful choral traditions at both schools.
In one of the show's highlights, the students' combined voices filled the hall in a joint performance of Schubert's "Mass in G," accompanied by a full orchestra of parents, alums, students and pros.
Winsor's Small Chorus performed several pieces on its own, ranging from Bulgarian folk music to Mendelssohn to an upbeat "Joyful, Joyful" arrangement. They also joined Upper School Chorale in performing "Ose Shalom," with both groups accompanied by pianist Valerie Becker and led by Ms. Taillacq, the Eleanor T. Nelson '49 Chair in Fine Arts.
Senior Small treated the audience to stirring renditions of "You Raise Me Up" and "Wings."
The many Winsor soloists throughout the evening included sophomores Lia Kornmehl and Julie Wilson, juniors Victoria Ho, Daphnee Piou and Jordan Sclar, and seniors Isabelle Bastian, Audrey Bloom, Joanna Grill, Susy Liu, Claudia Meyer, Susanna Monroe, Emma Pan, Sarah Quraishi, Helen Sayegh, and Melissa Yamada. The program also featured violin solos by seniors Emily Chen, Betsy Kim and Susanna Monroe and percussion by junior Victoria Ho and sophomore Antonia Januszewicz.
Special thanks to Mike Pojman, assistant headmaster at Roxbury Latin, for sharing his great photographs.
