A magical year of Winsor theater will continue with Into the Woods, the Upper School spring musical, on April 28 and 29, 2017. This Tony Award-winning, fairy tale musical by legendary Broadway composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim explores the complex relationships between parents and children and reminds us that, "No One is Alone." This production features 23 student actors, dancers and singers, from both the Winsor and Roxbury Latin Schools.
"We're always looking for shows with strong, complex female characters and Into the Woods has them in abundance." Says director and drama teacher Jeremy Johnson. "Our choices often center around the multiple ways of being a woman in the world. She Kills Monsters dealt with sisters, Bernada Alba explored a harsh, matriarchal culture and The Heidi Chronicles tackled feminism. Into the Woods speaks to the complicated relationships between parents and children. I also like the fact that this year, She Kills Monsters and Into the Woods both use magic, fantasy and fantastical situations to discuss very deep, real world issues around family and relationships."
The cast includes Helen Sayegh '17 as The Witch, Susanna Monroe '17 as the Baker's Wife, Saphia Suarez '17 as Cinderella, Megan Kaye '18 as Little Red Riding Hood and Leslie Moukheiber '19 as Rapunzel. Other Winsor students include Genevieve Brusie '17, Isabel Griffith-Gorgati '17, Teresa Lawlor '19, Kayla Lee '19, Victoria Ho, Penny Mack '18, Shantel Teixeira '20, Nazira Calhoun '20, Alex Farina '17, Julie Wilson '19 and Ashley Krawshuk '20.
