Role of the Director of Diversity

In his role as Interim Director of Diversity, Julian Braxton helps Winsor advance its commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive community.

The director is a member of the Administrative Council and reports to the Director of the school. He works closely with the leadership team and others, serving as a resource to the school by developing programs to support communication and understanding among students, teachers, and parents and by drawing upon existing resources in the community to heighten/deepen individual and collective consciousness about issues of diversity. Although the Director of Diversity gives attention to all of the following areas, some areas are given greater priority than others. As the school changes, so, too, will the emphasis given to certain aspects of diversity. The job will continue to evolve and change with the school’s diversity needs and concerns.

The areas of responsibility and involvement include the following:

  • Helping to establish Winsor’s goals in the area of diversity and plans to achieve them.
  • Coordinating, strengthening and linking the school’s programs to support diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Assisting in the recuitment and retention of faculty of color.
  • Facilitating faculty professional development.
  • Supporting and advising students of color.
  • Providing ideas and support for multicultural curriculum development.
  • Supporting parents of color, informing and educating all parents about the school’s diversity.
