The Visual Arts Department will lead a trip to Vienna, Prague, and Budapest for June 2019 that will focus on the art, architecture, and cultural history of those three cities. We will spend 10 nights and 11 days, starting in Budapest, giving students an architectural tour through history from Roman times to Neoclassical. We will then take the train to Vienna where we will focus on Gustav Klimt and Modernist architecture through visits to museums and historic buildings as well as a visit to the 450-year-old Spanish Riding School, a traditional riding school for Lippizan horses. From there, we will take a motor coach to Prague and spend several days focusing on the incredible architectural, literary, and musical wealth of the city through the lens of Kafka, Mucha, and Art Nouveau. Throughout the trip, we will emphasize the cultural and historic context of the art and architecture.
All Upper School students in classes V through VII are invited to attend. Graduating seniors are not eligible for this trip. The current estimated price for the trip is $4,375 for a group of 16 students with two Winsor teachers as chaperones. This fee includes round-trip airfare to and from Boston, airport taxes, all ground transportation, hotel and lodging, breakfast and dinner daily, local tour guides, entrance fees to museums, various excursions and all gratuities. The final price will depend on group size, airport taxes and surcharges, currency exchange rates, and final costs.
