Parent Network for Diversity


Time Commitment: Depends on the level of involvement and needs of the committee chairs. Liaison should attend all Parents' Association meetings plus as many meetings of the subcommittees as possible. Liaisons should have two meetings a year with the director of community and multicultural affairs to share information about student and parent activities.

PND Forum Committee Members

Duration: Full academic year, a two-year commitment
Description/Responsibilities: The PND Forums seek to create a safe space at the school for parents, faculty and administrators to increase a sense of belonging for every member of the Winsor community through thoughtful and reflective discussions on the challenging issues facing a diverse community. Committee members prepare for and plan at least two forums annually.

Time Commitment: The committee usually meets at least twice in advance of each forum (usually on a weekday morning but is to be determined by the committee).

PND New Family Welcome Event Coordinators

Duration: August and September, a two month commitment
Description/Responsibilities: This is an off campus, informal event, designed to promote and build community for new families and their daughters. Coordinators work in conjunction with the director of parent relations to plan an early dinner, usually on a Sunday, for new Winsor families. This includes securing the venue, coordinating outreach and invitations, planning the menu and activities, and recruiting support volunteers from other PND committees.

Time Commitment: Usually one in school meeting and consistent email communication. The total tome commitment averages about 15 hours.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Coordinators

Duration: September – January, a five month commitment
Description/Responsibilities: Winsor has been hosting an annual celebration honoring Dr. King's life and contributions for over two decades. The event includes a meal and a program of readings, speakers, a short video, and music by, and from, the entire Winsor community. Coordinators work closely with the director of parent relations and are responsible for assisting in the design of the program and the recruitment of the evening's volunteers.

Time commitment: At least one monthly meeting until the event, ending with about four hours on the day itself overseeing the entire program from set-up to cleanup.

Faculty of Color Appreciation Dinner Coordinators

Duration: September – January, a five month commitment
Description/Responsibilities: An annual dinner to celebrate faculty of color at Winsor. This is an event that celebrates the range of perspectives and backgrounds the faculty of color bring to our daughters education. As a former event speaker said, "one antidote to racism is to show appreciation for people of color" and this event is designed to do so within our Winsor community. The coordinators work with the director of parent relations to design the program, solicit speakers and food donations, and recruit and oversee volunteers.

Girls Go Global Coordinators

Duration: September – April, a seven month commitment. This is a bi-annual event (the last event was held April, 2014).
Description/Responsibilities: Girls Go Global is an opportunity for Winsor families to celebrate each other's unique cultures and backgrounds by sharing food, music, and history. The coordinators work with the director of special events to select a committee of volunteers that reflect Winsor's diverse community. Together they coordinate the events' program, theme, volunteers, schedule and entertainment.

Time commitment: Telephone and email organization outside of school can be a few hours a month and at least one monthly meeting until the event, ending with about four hours on the day itself overseeing the entire program from set-up to cleanup.
