Counselor's Corner: The Effects of Social Isolation
With more time going by and the ‘novelty’ of distancing learning wearing off, I have been thinking and talking more about the effects of social isolation. Some consequences of social distancing will be inevitable and we will all see some impact on our mental health. I am focusing my thoughts on when to worry, and what to do to help ease the load.
This article from educational psychologist Karen Young provides a lot of relatable and tangible advice on what is ‘normal’ and what you can do to help your adolescent navigate these particularly difficult times. It is important to remember that we are all people with our own challenges in this experience. Make sure to put your oxygen mask on before assisting others! Stay well.
