Students Lead Celebration of Earth Day

Members of the Upper School club Conserve Our World (COW) and Lower School club Planet Protectors hosted a special assembly to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and to educate students and encourage them to do their part in the fight to save our planet.

The assembly began with a presentation, created by the club leaders, on the history of Earth Day, which included a nod to marine biologist, author and conservationist Rachel Carson, whose 1962 book Silent Spring is credited with advancing the global environmental movement.

Next, special guest Dr. Carly Phillips, a research scientist and climate expert, shared insights and answered questions from students.

In the words of Ms. Lebeiniac in her virtual shout out: "Hearty applause for women in science making a difference!"

Following the assembly, students joined their regular Zoom advisory groups, many wearing green to celebrate the occasion, to discuss the assembly and test their climate knowledge. COW also planned a full week of activities and events for the Upper School.
