Varsity Squash Finishes 6th in the Country

Winsor Varsity squash team traveled to Philadelphia last weekend to compete in the highest level a high school team can possibly play, the U.S. High School Team Squash Championships. The tournament hosted 169 boys and girls teams from as far as California and placed them in separate divisions based on strength and match results. The Winsor team competed in Division 1 within the top 16 girls teams in the US.

Winsor started the tournament with Hotchkiss School and beat them in a very close battle on Friday, 4-3. It was definitely a rocky start with nerves and lots of pressure up in the air, but the team pulled out some really close rallies, games and matches at the end.

On Saturday, the team played with one of the top teams in the nation, Sacred Heart Greenwich and fought hard but ended up losing 5-2. Our second match on Saturday was against a very impressive local team, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. Aside from the loud cheering from locals and their peers, Winsor managed to win this tough match 4-3.

On Sunday the team played for 5th-6th place against Episcopal Academy and was just one game short of the win of this match as they lost in a 4-3 battle. Winsor squash grabbed an amazing 6th place at the end which makes us the 6th strongest girls squash team in the US and the strongest girls squash team in MA as no other team from MA finished above us.

Congratulations to the players of the tournament:
Caroline Eielson, Lily Levitzky, Kaitlyn Doe, Sora Karanja, Mina Subramanian, Tia Sheth and Ani Banerjee.
