Through the years Winsor debaters and public speakers have garnered a well-deserved reputation of being top performers on the world stage.
This October the Winsor trio of Ellen Burstein '18, Katherine Lin '18 and Anne Kaplan '19 enhanced that reputation, placing second among U.S. teams at the 2017 International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition, held in Winnipeg, Canada.
Along with the team trophy, Ellen earned fourth place among individual U.S. speakers and was named to the American team for the 2018 Worlds. In doing so, she follows in a long line of Winsor students who have qualified for the World Public Speaking and Debating Competition. The April 2018 competition will take place in Cape Town, South Africa!
In Winnepeg, this year's Winsor teammates spent five days competing in debate and public speaking against teams from all over the world. The results showed their skill, experience, and extensive preparation, with guidance from Winsor coaches Ned Henningsen and Jean Berg P'77, '81, '85.
Special thanks to Winsor parent chaperones, Mary Mullen P'18 and Sharon Zhang '18, for traveling with the team and contributing as reporters and photographers!
