Artistic Expression

Students star on stage—and behind the scenes—in Winsor plays and concerts throughout the year. Our beautiful new performing arts center supports a wide array of classes and co-curricular opportunities in dance, theater, choral, orchestral, and contemporary music.

Winsor students participate in every aspect of our performing arts productions, from designing and producing sets and costumes to playing, directing, acting, dancing, and more. We encourage our students to step outside their comfort zones in the safe space Winsor provides. Along the way, they build resilience, learn to work as part of a team, and gain the confidence to present themselves in public, all of which prepare them for future success in their personal and professional endeavors.

Expressive Potential

Studying the performing arts provides students with invaluable skills that extend beyond the stage.

Every Lower School student has ample opportunity to explore dance, music, and theater in general classes, electives, and the Performing Arts Block. The Upper School Performing Arts program has introductory- and advanced-level classes that provide opportunities for students to try something new or dive more deeply into an area of interest. The After School Theater Program serves Lower and Upper School actors in the fall, winter, and spring.

Class I (Grade 5) Play

The annual Class I play is a time-honored tradition designed to unite Winsor’s incoming class of students and build community. Working together, all 30 students spend their very first semester preparing for the performance. The 2025 offering, The Bird of One Thousand Colors, was an original play written by Theater Director Jeremy Johnson and was inspired by a Cuban folktale in the book Tales Our Abuelitas Told: A Hispanic Folktale Collection by F. Isabel Campoy and Alma Flor Ada. In addition to the script written by Mr. Johnson, the play featured original music by Choral Director Andrew Marshall, choreography by Performing Arts Faculty Ann-Marie Ciaraldi, costumes by Performing Arts Faculty Jessica Pribble, and set and lighting design by Technical Theater Director Andres Puigbo and Theater Assistant Anna Vogler.

Class IV (Grade 8) Shakespeare Play: Twelfth Night

A Winsor tradition dating back to 1931, the Class IV Shakespeare play is a culmination of interdisciplinary learning between English, acting, theater, music, and costume courses. Each year, our Class IV students prepare two versions of the show, one historical and one modern, giving our students the opportunity to perform as part of the cast in one, and support their peers behind the scenes with set, costumes, or music for the other. Check out the 2025 production of Twelfth Night—whether students were performing in South Beach or along the Adriatic coast, they brought to life Shakespeare’s story of love and mischief.
