Fostering Creativity
The arts are woven into the fabric of every Winsor student's experience. In the studios and on the stage, students enjoy essential opportunities to think creatively, work collaboratively, and explore and express their own voices and passions. They gain confidence that extends into everything they do.
Artistic Endeavors
From drawing, sculpture, and computer animation to voice, dance, acting, and electric guitar, Winsor offers incredible breadth in the arts as well as opportunities to focus on your favorite art form.
The Arts at Winsor
Winsor has been mixing collaboration and creativity to build community for more than a century. Students have been publishing The Lamp, Winsorโs magazine of poetry, creative writing, and visual arts since 1915. The Class IV Shakespeare play tradition dates back to 1931. The annual Rock On and Advanced Rock On performances, the capstone experience for students in two elective music classes, started in 2016.
Joining a theatrical production, a dance ensemble, the fine arts association or a music class that stages a full-length concert โ all are great ways to develop a tightly-knit group of friends who unite around a shared passion. Special curricular programming in performing arts gives students opportunities to explore participating in a choral ensemble, an instrumental ensemble, or a dance ensemble in addition to their arts electives. Lower School clubs have included Art Club, Chorus, and Orchestra. In the Upper School, students lead clubs dedicated to creative writing, drama, and film.

Winsor takes advantage of our Boston location to enrich studentsโ experience of the visual arts and art history. Art history students visit the MFA three out of every four weeks, and faculty tap into the local artist community to bring working artists into their classrooms.ย
Winsor music groups, including Illumina, Descants, and Class I and II Chorus, share music with the local community with regular performances at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Shapiro Building.ย
Winsor students have opportunities to go abroad with faculty to study art, architecture, and photography. Destinations have included Spain, Italy, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Turkey, and The Netherlands.
In addition to being incredibly exciting and fun, these trips are mind-expanding. Studying in this immersive, experiential way deepens studentsโ understanding of different cultures, which is a key component of Winsorโs Principles of Global Responsibility.
