Sixth Annual Class IV Rock On Concert

Thursday, January 13—Assembly featured the sixth annual Class IV Rock On concert. The show took place on stage in the The David E. And Stacey L. Goel Theater as the first performance of 2022. Class IV Technical Theater designed and ran the stage lights and spot lights, the fog machines, the slideshow, and the star drop curtain. The emcees thanked Mr. Puigbo and his team of Class IV students.

A high-energy performance, students jumped between vocals and instruments for each of the six songs. Students introduced each number by sharing interesting historical factoids with the audience and explaining the meaning behind their song choices. For example, Redbone band members were of either Mexican American or Native American heritage, which was reflected in the band’s instrumentation, stage costumes, and album cover art. For Winsor students, that message of inclusivity also translated to the song message of being deserving of love in “Come and Get Your Love.”

The band went on to perform “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls and dedicated the performance to the very first Class IV Rock On students who performed the song in 2016. When Kendal Pauyo ’26 started the final rap, the crowd—led by the seniors—stood up and started cheering. From that point on, students couldn’t stay in their chairs, and kept standing up to clap and dance. During the rendition of “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, students even pulled out their cell phones, turned on their flashlights, and started waving them slowly in the air creating a concert-like atmosphere.

When soloist Theo Zarrow ’26 hit the high notes while singing “Love on Top” by Beyoncé, the crowd roared. But when the students announced the final song of Assembly would be “Good 4 U” by Olivia Rodrigo (pictured), there was a palpable gasp of anticipation and excitement as well as a lengthy round of applause for special guest guitarist from Class V, Mina Feldman ’25.

A big thank you to Ms. Brady-Lopez; the collaboration between Class IV Rock On and Class IV Technical Theater made this show a success.
