Winsor y Roxbury Latin presentan Mamma Mia!

De todo mi tiempo en Winsor, no ha habido un espectáculo que ha recibido tanta anticipación y emoción como Mamma Mia! El espectáculo se estrenó este viernes y sábado pasado, y sin apenas asientos sobrantes, creo que es fácil decir que fue un éxito. Del escenario tan elaborado hasta las voces, la actuación y la música fantástica, la adaptación de esta película tan famosa fue hecha con pasión y atención a los detalles. Aunque el espectáculo en su totalidad fue alegre, emocionante, e interesante, hubo varios momentos que son mis favoritos.

Uno de esos momentos fue la realización de “Dancing Queen” al principio de la obra. La canción empezó siendo una manifestación de tiempos juveniles entre Donna Sheridan, actuada por Olivia Sarkis ’23 y sus dos amigas Tanya y Rosie, actuadas por Paige Whalen ’24 y Chloe Chao ’23, pero terminó siendo un número que incorporó todo, o casi todo el reparto. Esto no es decir que el trío del comienzo no hizo un trabajo maravilloso; no, los tres actores bailaron con energía y entusiasmo y sus movimientos eran grandes y amplios. Usaron el escenario entero y capturaron la atención de la audiencia por toda la canción — algo difícil de hacer, especialmente con un número que tiene tanta repetición. Sin embargo, era muy divertido ver al reparto venir por las puertas detrás del teatro y bailar en los pasillos de los asientos. Aunque los estudiantes de Winsor asistieron a un breve preestreno durante la asamblea el jueves anterior, este momento fue igualmente emocionante verlo por segunda vez.

Otro de mis momentos favoritos fue el rendimiento de “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do,” que empezó directamente después de que Sam Carmichael, interpretado por Tommy Reichard ’23 (estudiante de Roxbury Latin) propone matrimonio a Donna. El electo entero estaba juntos, bailando en parejas al ritmo de la canción y concluyendo la obra. Era un momento triste — sabías que el espectáculo estaba llegando a su fin — pero fue muy satisfactorio ya que Donna terminó con Sam y la boda de Sophie Sheridan, actuado por Ava Kee ’23, y Sky, actuado por Emmanuel Nwodo ’23 (estudiante de Roxbury Latin) sería propuesta.

En general, estuve muy impresionada con la realización de esta obra tan bien conocida. Los actores proyectaron bien, fueron dinámicos, y atrajeron la atención de la audiencia durante toda la producción. Felicidades a todos los actores del reparto por producir y ejecutar una adaptación tan bien hecha y estoy muy emocionada por ver el musical el próximo invierno.  

Winsor and Roxbury Latin Present Mamma Mia!

Of all my time at Winsor, I don’t think there hasn’t been a show that has received as much anticipation and excitement as Mamma Mia! The show performed this past Friday and Saturday, and without any extra seats in the audience, I think it’s easy to say it was a hit. From the elaborate stage to the singing, the acting and the fantastic music, the adaptation of this famous movie was performed with passion and attention to detail! Although the show as a whole was joyous, exciting and engaging, there were several moments that were definitely my favorite.

One of these moments was the performance of “Dancing Queen” at the beginning of the show. The song started as a manifestation of youthful times between Donna Sheridan, played by Olivia Sarkis ’23, and her two friends Tanya and Rosie, played by Paige Whalen ’24 and Chloe Chao ’23, but finished as a number that incorporated most, if not all of the cast. This is not to say that the beginning trio did not do a fantastic job; no, the three actors danced with energy and enthusiasm and their movements were big and broad. They used the whole ground floor of the stage and captured the audience’s attention throughout the entire song — a difficult feat, especially with a number that has so much repetition. Even so, I have to say that my favorite part was seeing the cast come through the doors at the back of the theater and dance in the aisle. Although Winsor students got a brief sneak peak during last Thursday’s assembly, this moment was just as exciting seeing it for the second time.

Another one of my favorite moments was the adaptation of “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do,” which began directly after Sam Carmichael, played by Tommy Reichard ’23, (Roxbury Latin student) proposes to Donna. The entire cast was together, dancing in pairs to the beat of the song and concluding the story portion of the show. It was a sad moment — you knew the show was nearing the end — but it was also satisfying, given that Donna ended up with Sam and the wedding between Sophie Sheridan, played by Ava Kee ’23, and Sky, played by Emmanuel Nwodo ’23 (Roxbury Latin student) was being postponed.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with the performance of this well-known musical. The actors projected well, were dynamic and drew in the audience throughout the entire production. Congrats to all of the cast for executing such a well-done show, and I am very excited to see the musical next winter.
