Class I Library and Media Skills (Fall or Spring)

In this course, students learn to access quality information for pleasure reading and research in print books and digital sources using the online library catalog, the libraryโ€™s subscription databases, and search engines. Students learn to ask probing research questions, assess sources for reliability and objectivity, and practice good scholarship by accurately paraphrasing information and citing sources using MLA format. Students also explore digital citizenship and online safety.ย 

Class II Library and Media Skills (Yearlong)

In this course, students strengthen their information literacy skills by using print and digital sources, including the libraryโ€™s databases, the online library catalog, and search engines. They deepen their ability to formulate research questions, evaluate sources, and practice good scholarship by completing a research project of their choosing. The course also focuses on the development of media literacy skills, such as identifying misinformation and understanding why it spreads, how to identify propaganda and advertisements, understanding the role of data tracking in their digital lives, and how to practice digital safety and responsibility.
