Winsor Alum Finishes 6th at Nike Nationals
Congratulations to Lydia Morris-Kliment โ23 on a great performance at the 2023 Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon! With a throw of 123 feet, Lydia finished sixth in the Emerging Elite category for the discus event.
A recent graduate, Morris-Kliment showed great prowess in the discus circle for the Winsor varsity track and field team. She was undefeated in the event over the past two-plus seasons.
At the Eastern Independent League (EIL)ย conference championship in May 2023, Morris-Kliment won with a throw of 108-4. Competing in multiple events, Morris-Kliment also won long jump gold on her first attempt with a 16-9.25 mark and went on to reset the Winsor School and EIL meet records in the 100m, clocking 12.59 seconds. Ultimately Morris-Kliment helped the Winsor varsity track and field team capture the 2023 EIL title. It was the teamโs seventh consecutive conference championship.
A week after the EIL championships, during a downpour at the New England Prep School Track Association (NEPSTA) Division II championships, Morris-Kliment won gold in discus throw for the second consecutive year with a throw of 107-10. She won the silver medal in both the long jumpโwith a personal best 17-1.25โand the 100m, which she ran in 12.79 seconds. Finally, she anchored out the silver-medal winning 4×100 team with Maddie Cheng โ25, Yemisi Adetowubo โ26, and Natalie Cooper โ24 in a time of 51.99. Morris-Kliment is just the third Winsor athlete to win multiple NEPSTA gold medals, joining Winsor alumnae Eliza Gardiner Stensland โ04 and Kristen Skillman โ12.
In addition to being recognized as the EIL Runner of the Year in 2022 and 2023, at Winsorโs 2022โ2023 Awards Celebration, Morris-Kliment received the Track and Field Cup for her leadership and athletic success. A former captain for soccer, basketball, and track and field at Winsor, she will join the track and field team at Swarthmore College (NCAA DIII) in the fall.
